Terms of Service

Welcome to La Mesa (“La Mesa,” “we,” “us”). La Mesa is a family recipe platform operated by [REVIEW: legal name / entity — e.g. “Amanda Densler” or a registered company] at lamesa.family. By creating an account or using La Mesa, you agree to these Terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the service.
1. Who can use La Mesa
You must be at least [REVIEW: 13, or 16 in the EU/UK] years old to create an account. If you’re using La Mesa on behalf of your family, you’re responsible for the accounts and content you set up.
2. Your account
- You’re responsible for keeping your password secure and for everything that happens under your account.
- Each account owns one personal cookbook. You choose its name and can rename it anytime.
- Tell us promptly if you believe your account has been accessed without your permission.
3. Your content is yours
You keep all ownership of the recipes, photos, stories, comments, and other content you add (“Your Content”). By adding it, you grant La Mesa a limited license to store, display, and process it only as needed to run the service for you — for example, showing your recipes to people you’ve shared your cookbook with, generating a PDF, or sending your recipe text to our AI provider when you use an AI feature (see Section 6 and our Privacy Policy). We don’t claim ownership of Your Content and we don’t sell it.
Sharing and “stealing.” La Mesa lets you share your cookbook view-only with other people, and lets people you’ve shared with copy (“steal”) a recipe into their own cookbook with attribution. When you share a cookbook, you’re authorizing those people to view — and, for recipes, to copy — that content. Don’t share content you don’t have the right to share.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Upload content that is illegal, infringes someone else’s rights, or that you don’t have permission to post;
- Abuse, harass, or harm other users through comments or shared content;
- Attempt to break, overload, scrape, or gain unauthorized access to La Mesa or other users’ cookbooks;
- Use La Mesa to send spam or create accounts in an automated or abusive way.
We may remove content or suspend accounts that violate these Terms. La Mesa’s administrator can remove content for moderation.
5. AI features
Some features use artificial intelligence (currently Anthropic’s Claude) to help you — for example, extracting a recipe from a photo, suggesting what to cook, building a menu, or scaling a recipe. When you use one of these features, the relevant content (such as a recipe photo or ingredient list) is sent to our AI provider for processing. See the Privacy Policy for details.
AI output is a draft, not advice. AI results can be wrong or incomplete. You are responsible for reviewing anything the AI produces before saving or relying on it — especially for food safety, allergies, substitutions, and cooking times. La Mesa doesn’t provide medical, dietary, or food-safety advice.
6. Paid subscriptions (La Mesa+)
Core La Mesa is free. Some features are part of a paid plan (“La Mesa+”). [REVIEW: keep this section, but note it only takes effect once billing is live.]
- Price & billing. La Mesa+ is [REVIEW: $5] per month, billed through our payment provider, Lemon Squeezy, who acts as the merchant of record and handles payment and applicable taxes. Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled.
- Free trial. New subscriptions may include a [REVIEW: 14]-day free trial. If you don’t cancel before the trial ends, the plan converts to a paid subscription.
- Cancellation. You can cancel anytime through your billing settings; your paid access continues until the end of the current billing period.
- Refunds. [REVIEW: state your refund policy — e.g. “Except where required by law, payments are non-refundable,” or a defined refund window. Lemon Squeezy has its own buyer policies.]
- Price changes. We may change prices with advance notice; changes apply to the next billing period.
- VIP. Some family and friends accounts are designated VIP and are not charged.
7. Third-party services
La Mesa relies on trusted third parties to operate (hosting, email, AI, backups, and payments). Their handling of data is described in the Privacy Policy. Your use of La Mesa may also be subject to those providers’ terms.
8. Termination
You can stop using La Mesa and request deletion of your account at any time (see the Privacy Policy). We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or that create risk for La Mesa or its users.
9. Disclaimers
La Mesa is provided “as is,” without warranties of any kind to the fullest extent permitted by law. We don’t guarantee the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that content (including AI output) will be accurate. You use recipes and cooking guidance at your own risk.
10. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, La Mesa and its operator won’t be liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for any loss of data or content, arising from your use of the service. [REVIEW: many templates cap total liability at the amount you paid in the last 12 months — confirm with a lawyer.]
11. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we’ll update the “last updated” date and, where appropriate, notify you. Continuing to use La Mesa after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.
12. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of [REVIEW: your state/country, e.g. “the State of ___, United States”], without regard to conflict- of-law rules.
